Full Version: SOTM. Is it still happening
AU Starlet Club > Mod and Admin Lounge > Feedback Bugs and Issues
-Harry-
Is starlet of the month still happening. Theres 3 cars on the list that have said "coming soon" for a very long time. Caths (zub03) is easy. You can just link her pic that she made with all the specs. Peanuts is missing too.

I know there was a lot of confusion last time we tryed to take a vote due to other members starting polls and then mods starting polls ect ect.

So is SOTM returning or is it dead forever?

Cheers

Harry

PS I was also thinking maybe an austarletclub calender once we had enough SOTM's
Zuboo
you might as well as the horsepower heros on getting that updated. cath has sent an update off twice. 1st time was when she got the dyno readout and engine mods which was over 2months ago, and the second time was just last night.

i know your going to say that the mods are busy. (edit)

some people on here are willing to help out the club ,but are not allowed due to access.

for example for the qld side
you have MrGt who gets all the stickers/shirts done for the club.
Fearless,zubo,97starlet,warwick, for cruises,
fearless,jezza323,zubo sprint events.
gig13 and cath last year for the jambo .

and you will notice all the people above do not have business interest(traders) in the club. As they obviously want to see the club grow and not the business sales.

we rarely see a mod or admin turn up to an event. as you can see people are willing to donate time and support. the problem comes when mods and admin lose focus on the site. the club suffers as a whole.
As for S.T.O.M the buck has been passed over the last year to who has been doing it and who is writting the articles.

if the admin/mods are pushed for time or have lost interest in the site maybe they should look at asking for other members help.

this is not having a go at the mods or admin team(insert disclaimer here)

Outraged???? give me a break!
Mods are human too...... maybe they forgot. And if u only reminded them last night and ur getting pissed that it still hasnt been updated then maybe u should remember that these people are volunteering their time to do this for the service of the club.
They do not get paid. If they have other things on their plate that is more important than you seeing your name on a wank figure board then so be it.

Lee and Chris may not be the most 'active' when it comes to events......but that's their choice. It's not a requirement to be a mod or admin that you race your car around or enter every show that comes up. That may be what u want to do with your life, but everyone else is free to do what they like.
Brad is the most active member in SA.....with everything revolving around him really....he's also organised meetings in Victoria when he's on holiday there.
Which brings me to Lee's 'round Australia trip......where he is organising to meet everyone in each capital city he visits....sounds like participation to me!

back on topic, Lee asked me to prepare something on my car to upload, but I have been too busy to do it.....it's not his fault I havent given him anything.

I wouldn't get defencive Starlet TTR. I read Zuboo's post for what it is. I have been considering donating to the club. As soon as my car is roadworthy once again i'd love to make an effort to come to and organise events here in QLD for club members also. Maybe 1 person from each state could be given certain accessability to organise things like SOTM. That would be great. Then each month could get passed from State to state. Doesnt have to be the best looking/most powerful car always, just someone who has put effort into posting and the modification/euthusiasm towards there ride. We all know $$$ makes the cars. Sometime passion means more than that.
But agreed, there could be more site content, features ect, and i'm sure members would gladly add time & effort into ideas etc.

That's my two cents.

Chris or lone would not have taken this post offencive, i talk chris on msn time to time, and josh talks to lone all the time about the club and where QLD members want it to go, so dont worry Starlet TTR they would not have taken my post offencive, and if brad has sorry not ment to come across that way

Im sure most people think of me in this way, but i only post when i feel the need to, which is why i have a low post count, not like im trying to make a name for my self, i did not post the topic up just replyed because no-one had, after 2 days.

I was more getting to the point, the site runs with out the mods or admin doing cruises or events like autosalon (sorry forgot to add people who did that autosalon or the Nsw\Qld meet thats coming up), im sure some people would be happy to do S.O.T.M and other things to help the mods/admin out. Its better than not getting done at all. If they dont have the time, im sure some of the people who live on the site will put there hands up.

Well since you've now edited your post, people cant see what you originally wrote which got me fired up...... dry.gif

I wouldnt have a clue what any of the mods or admins think about any of this......i just went through them all....leaving out Dale of course because he's not on here very much anymore.

But to say that the donating members should be outraged for the service they are getting from their 'leaders' is rediculous. That has nothing to do with the donation procedure or purpose. Donating is to financially help support the club, to help pay for it's hosting and forum software upgrades etc.

SOTM will be happening regularly soon..

good idea on the calender Harry , i'll look into that one..

i appreciate the QLD interest the club has , and it's great to see you guys up there have a great time with your events & gatherings etc.. and showing that with your forum posts...

i do believe there is alot of "behind the scenes" stuff that happen with club members too , right across australia that is not shown on the forum...
i can certainly say that about adelaide, with every weekend i have a pile of starlets at my place doing one thing or another , using my equipment and tools , havin` BBQ lunches/dinners and a few ale's..
and i don't have an issue with that at all, we all respect and help each other out...
I have met a great group of friends , and we've all learnt about , and modified the cars together.. and better still , i've gone on overseas holidays with Starlet TTR and squibly , twice.
there is a keen group of golfers in the Adelaide group as well , that hit the course at least every fortnight , which is great "time out" from car orientated work..

I will make sure on taking photos and posting up what we are all doing down here , but seriously if i posted everything that the adelaide group does , i'd have to stay up all night to write it up...

When i was in melbourne , it was a pleasure catching up with all the group there , great bunch of people who all enjoy what they are doing..

even behind the scenes , It's great to see all the interest that this club/forum has brought to everyone , austrailia wide...

If anyone wants to PM me regarding anything forum related , don't hesitate , as i'll do my best to help you out..

Brad.

Have let a few people know from this thread what the G O is for the website.

Practically have a new system that im working on so that others can update it easily and add some new 'fresh' content to the website.

Im really sorry with the delays in having this all done but I am so busy and unfortunately at the stage it is now no one can really help out on the webfront as I using my own custom code used for some of our clients websites.

Also, I appreciate the passion behind the club everyone has as its the one true thing thats keeps me keeping it going smile.gif

Sorry i removed it, because you were pissed

Is what i wrote for those playing at home, i edited to stop the fights, because it is not the way i wanted my post to go.

I was not starting an qld vs other sates, i was just posting what happens in qld and who does what, im sure people do lots in other sates too, which is why i did not post about them, it was more if mods need help other members are willing to help. Lots of people get involved just for the club nothing else, than to try and see it move foward, so helping would not be a problem, if mods needed it.

As for the money thing, you dont want to put money into a site and it stay the same or go down hill, you put money to help it move foward is more what i ment.

Have a look at coast cars they had a big donate push from members and ended up getting into the sh*t,

I am an avid writer who often has a spare night or two that could be spent far more productively.
Maybe in collaboration with others who can take photos and collect technical specs/info of the Monthly winners we could give the concept more regularity.
By turning the responsibility away from an Individual we could work in little teams of alternating members to produce a section of the site that I'm sure everyone would enjoy.

There is also the question of the time intervals suitability when comapred to the number of active users. Maybe it would be more suitable to do a Quarterly starlet giving people more time to work on their cars and the guys doing the stories to gather more info and photos which in turn can help to make the Articles more comprehensive in nature; Quarterly Starlet could have nominations and all sorts of faux-formalities thrown in to build enthusiasm for the concept.
I feel could be a good draw card, I know I'd be loving it If I Won a Quarterly Starlet!! I'd be famous (in my head, on this site) for 3 months!!

I know a lot of this has been discussed before but I just wanted to have a little rant to say I can help on occasion if and where needed. This forum is easily my favourite in terms of the inter-user society feel that it gives.

It's probably just me but @ toymods I fear posting sometimes at the thought of a neg rep avalanche and many a sarcastic or elitist response mocking my blatant lack of knowledge of all things Toyota. Not here!

Cheers!
