Gday the names Ray, 21 from the good old Central Coast (north end)

I picked up a 1996 Starlet EP91 on Friday, it was too good to pass up.. Full service history, immaculate interior, 1 ding on the outside.. for less than $1000 with rego, original everything, no A/C, no power steering I'm really happy with the car after an oil change and a tank of premium run through it.

It's not my first Toyota, I have an RN105 Hilux 4x4 which needs attention after a few years of off road abuse, which is why the Starlet came into play as a run around to and from work while I fix the Hilux up a bit..

Btw, does everyone elses twin cam N/A Starlet whistle really loud as the revs get higher, or is my air intake shot? Lol.

Nice buy, i recently got a steal like that for $1800 - couldn't pass it up, bought a half-cut glanza for it the next day... now i just need time haha.

We had a late model Dihatsu Ferroza that used to whistle heaps - turned out it was carbon build up in the exhuast, maybe it's got a turbo slapped on

I might have to have another look at the manifold lol, I sh*t you not, this thing has way more punch then I expected!


I have been eyeballing the 4EFTE half cuts since I bought the car lol. I need to get the Hilux fixed up and sold, then I will pursue speeding up the Starlet.

If your Hilux is anything like my 2.4D's then anything would feel punchy, i struggled 2nd gear up hesters hill with the glanza halfcut on the back!

(It's a large hill south of perth 350k's), and towing my 18'6ft fibre glass boat around, well thats just no fun at all. All in all, unkillable, reliable slow and uncomfy,

Just how all 4x4's should be. Find another stock ep91 at the lights and go for a drag, that will soon tell you if something has been modified on yours, heh.

Nah my Hilux has the pov 22R, which has the loudest ticking in the top end... But still goes alright... I dare say the Starlet is nearly as quick as my 2007 Ford Focus..

Will have to take a 98 Starlet for a test drive, there's a few in the car yards around here.
